In my years of ministry God has blessed
me with many great opportunities, but none more important than a call
to minister to young people of diverse ethnic, social, cultural, and
economic backgrounds. It has been an incredible journey to be identified
with the “least of these”.
That's why I've joined the team at Youth
for Christ Central Valley and created our ministry called Tapestry.
What is Tapestry, you ask? Well just
what it implies: a beautiful interweaving of many different threads
and fabrics. We see that beauty in many of our higher-risk neighborhoods.
Through YFC’s efforts with Tapestry
and the many volunteers working with us, we believe God is doing something
special in the greater Modesto area. Something far and abundantly beyond
anything we could hope for or dream. People’s lives are being
changed…
Tapestry is in the midst of its fifth
year of ministry at YFC. God has blessed us with the opportunity to
plant Tapestry teams in West Modesto (Paradise Rd.), South Modesto (near
Hanshaw Middle School) Salida and Downtown Modesto (12th & M Streets).
Our plan is to plant as many Tapestry sites in our underserved neighborhoods
as we can in the coming years.
Each Tapestry site meets on Monday evenings
in a high energy, caring, and loving atmosphere. Through this combination
of the large groups and small groups, we hope to minister to hundreds
if not thousands of young people and bring them God's truth through
culturally relevant music, drama, sports, food, the arts and certainly
by teaching from God's Word.
You might say we have started a “youth
church”...but be assured we are making every effort to team up
with local area churches and to create the bridges and pathways necessary
to ensure that every young person who comes to know Jesus through our
efforts will be followed up with, developed into a life long follower
of Jesus Christ, and be plugged into a local body of believers.
